The corn

We live in the country, really. We are about 45 minutes from downtown, in the direction of the airport. There are numerous villa compounds for foreigners out where we live, but other than that, it's villages and countryside. Right now, the locals are harvesting the corn. As we drive down the road, even just to go to the school, as pictured above, we can see the farmers husking the corn, the ears drying in the sun, etc. All this occurs right in the middle of the road, as you can see. Everyone I've spoken to about this assumes it is animal feed corn, but no one knows for sure.
