The Terry Fox Run

Terry Fox is a Canadian man who developed bone cancer as a young man. He had his leg amputated and then ran across Canada to raise money and awareness for Cancer research. Now, every year, they have Terry Fox runs in Canada. The International School participates in the run by having each student particpate in a run and try to raise money. Starting in third grade, each student is not only a member of his or her grade, but also a part of a house within the school. Each house has a color. Jack is in the green house. Throughout the year the students participate in house challenges and at the end of the year the points are totalled and a winner is declared. The competition for the Terry Fox run involves the students raising money and putting it in the various colored boxes. The elementary school raised nearly $6,000.

Each grade trains for the run over the course of a few weeks during PE. Jed's grade had to run once around the track, a quarter of a mile or so. Jack's grade had to run about twice that distance. Both boys ran strong and kept a good pace. I was very proud as I watched Jed at 9:30 a.m. and Jack at 2:30 p.m.
